An EIA code would usually consist of 6 numbers at the time.I have an old magnavox console stereo, solid state. They would at least give a maximum age for it, though the unit could have left Magnavox's factory a little later than that. The idlers always needed to be turned down a little bit to remove the aged rubber. If you take the back off of it, and look at the speakers or the transformers, they're almost guaranteed to have EIA codes with manufacture dates on it. They are good changers, as far as changers go, but all needed to be completely disassembled to clean out the oxidized grease. Worked on many of these Micromatics. Model numbers do not help.I overhauled changers from the 40s, 50s, and 60s for about 10 years. There are differences in Micromatics.Yes, the white cartridges are rare as are the Zenith floating cartridges. I recall 2-pole and 4-pole versions. Some of them may have a tab at the rear that can be rotated to release the arm. It would easily pop out of the cartridge when flipping the needle. Also, they inconsiderately made it so the tonearm cannot be raised on many if not all models that look like yours. The early one used much the same needle as the later version, but the early version had a short tailpiece.

If it cycles properly and runs on speed then play it, but a drop of oil in the upper motor bearing will keep it from wearing out. My attitude toward console changers is that they all have problems. It was cheap and creamy when new, but dries like oil paint. Can't really look at the picture to tell. They used vegetable grease in most changers going back to the 40s. Windows downloader for macMany Collaro/Magnavox changers run a little fast due to machining errors in the pulleys. Magnavox integrated the cartridge, amp, and speakers to sound good as a whole. Recall that they needed some sort of alteration.Magnavox consoles can sound fairly good, but wouldn't use the changer through a receiver. ![]()
